On April 1, 2011 my Buzz on Vibes blog will be a year old. It’s odd, because on the one hand I have trouble believing that I’ve only been reviewing sex toys for a year, but at the same time I still feel like a newbie. Even though this has been an awesome and very educational experience so far, I have a lot to learn. I know my blog could be better, and needs to be better.

I still suck when it comes to graphic design or anything remotely technical. You guys weren’t here the morning I bought my domain and spent an inordinate amount of time trying to set it up. It really shouldn’t be hard, right? Blogger redirects the blog to the new URL or something. But then things like DNS settings and CNAMES became involved, and I had to phone tech support because the Google help articles only confused me more.

I somehow know that I need to switch to WordPress, but I’m afraid to do it. I know how to use Blogger, and it takes me forever to figure out new stuff. I’m too lazy, don’t have the time, and I’m not ready to spend hours switching everything over and learning how to use WordPress. That, and it will apparently cost me $12 a year for the redirect. Blogger is free. I like free. I do get it though, the WordPress platform has a lot more to offer and all that. Plus, it seems like people take you more seriously if you’re a WordPress blog. But that just may be my imagination.

When I started all this close to a year ago, I really had no true vision. Actually, I still don’t. I mean, at the time it seemed like a good way to promote what I saw as primarily a home party romance business. I was going to highlight products and post informative content. That didn’t last long. I only did one party. Soon after I started reviewing products for companies that have an affiliate review program, which is far more enjoyable, if not quite as lucrative, than home party sales. Hoping to make a bit here and there from affiliate commissions, doing product reviews is now the main focus for that blog.

At one point I was able to churn out three posts/reviews per week. Now that I have a real job, I can’t keep up that pace. I’d like to strive for quality over quantity, so that may mean only one or two posts per week, and I’m fine with that. That’s the nice thing about blogging. You can set your own rules and deadlines. I tend to be a too lenient on myself when I don’t make them, but I am kind of a slacker at heart.

Anyway, what was my point? Oh, yeah. I like having Tumblr to post my random ramblings. Hardly anybody reads it, which is cool, and it allows my Buzz on Vibes blog to appear more focused and professional. Hopefully.

But still no vision. It’s really more of a learn as you go with the flow kind of approach.
