Three years ago I started this blog. At the time I had no intention of becoming a blogger. I was unemployed and uninspired, and I wanted to do something different, but I didn’t know what. Lacking the money to explore new hobbies, I needed to find a stimulating outlet that wouldn’t cost anything. And hey, if I happened to figure out a way to make a buck or two in the process, even better.
I was looking into various “opportunities” when I noticed that a sex toy retailer had a home party program, and it was free to join. That’s right, it was totally free, with no starter kit or anything like that to buy. You even got your own website, which was really just a landing page with your tracking info on it and links to the online store, but still, I thought it was pretty cool at the time.
I figured since it didn’t cost anything, it was worth a try and I really had nothing to lose. Not that it matters now because the adult toy retailer discontinued their home party program many months ago, and I never got very far trying to be a romance party consultant anyway.
But that’s how all this started. I thought I could introduce good quality sex toys and glycerin-free lube to my fellow suburban housewives, enabling them to regain their libido and sex drive as I had thanks to my discovery and use of an effective vibrator, non-irritating lubricant, and some Liberator Shapes. Quite a lofty ambition, I know, but you have to start somewhere.
Frustrated by the lack of good product descriptions on the company’s website, I decided to post a few blurbs about sex toys and lube I had and used as a supplementary source of information. I soon realized that I would need to acquire and use more products in order to know how they worked, and once I discovered the affiliate review programs that other online sex toy retailers offered, that ended up being the direction I ultimately followed.
In the beginning, I was stumbling around on Blogger, making all kinds of n00b mistakes, but I was prolific back then, regularly posting a new review or two (sometimes three) every week. Most of those products were in the budget-friendly price range (aka cheap), because I pretty much accepted whatever was on offer as long as it was phthalates-free (if it was a toy) and glycerin-free (if it was lube). Beggars can’t be choosers.
I also did more giveaways. They seemed like an ideal way to
bribe gain followers, but after a couple of bad experiences working with lesser-known companies I lost interest. Plus, it got to the point where there were so many review bloggers doing giveaways that unless the prize was some fantastic, expensive, and highly coveted toy, it got lost in the shuffle and suffered low participation.
Well, it has been a year since I hosted a giveaway, and I would like to do one now in honor of this blog surviving the past three years. It has definitely been–and continues to be–a learning experience for me. I went from knowing nothing about SEO and HTML to being somewhat competent, although I still have LOADS to learn and CSS remains a mystery. I’ve also become more selective about the products I accept for review. Finding a real job–you know, one that pays me actual money instead of gift cards–means that I have less time to wank and blog, and I honestly see no point in reviewing yet another cheap bullet vibe. So I’ve opted for quality over quantity, preferring to review products that are either luxury, unique, and/or innovative. Also, since I’m all about education and love to read smut, I started doing more book reviews.
Last year Lovehoney sent me a Sqweel 2 to try. This was the improved version of their Sqweel, which isn’t a vibrator but an oral sex simulation toy. It’s essentially a wheel with a bunch of soft, squishy tongues that spin around lapping away at your clitoris. It definitely qualifies as unique and innovative, and the newer model has silicone tongues and a more powerful motor.
Thanks to Lovehoney sponsoring this giveaway, some lucky person is going to win a Sqweel 2! This contest is open to residents of the US and UK, since that’s where Lovehoney ships. Entries must be made via the Rafflecopter widget below and will be verified, so no cheating. Winner will be notified by email and have 48 hours to claim the prize. Otherwise, another winner will be picked. Good luck, and thank you for participating!
