I’m always on the lookout for good quality lube. Recently I requested free samples of Wet Lubricant from the company website, www.stayswetlonger.com. They sent me a few sample-size packets, including their water-based Wet Flavored Kiwi Strawberry.
Now, this product does have glycerin in it, so I’m not able to use it on myself. But flavored lubes are great for use during oral sex, assuming the receptive partner doesn’t also have a sensitivity to glycerin. I looked up the other ingredients because some sounded quite scary, and I included their purpose in parentheses and a link to their relevant Wikipedia page for those needing further information.
For the most part, these ingredients are considered safe and commonly used in cosmetics and skin care products. There were a couple I could not find useful information on, so those lack a link.
Wet Kiwi Strawberry contains: Deionized Water, Glycerin, Carbomer (an emulsifying agent), PEG-400 (a type of Polyethylene Glycol, which is used as a base in many products), Flavor, Propylene Glycol (a humectant), Aspartame (artificial sweetener), Hydroxyethylcellulose (thickening agent), Imidazolidinyl Urea (a preservative), Sodium Benzoate (a preservative), Methylparaben (a preservative), Tetrahydroxypropyl, Ethylenediamine (chelating agent), Tetrasodium EDTA, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate(Vitamin E), Citric Acid (preservative).
Although this is labeled as a gel lubricant, it is pretty runny. Luckily though, it is a clear liquid and doesn’t stain, so a few drips aren’t that big of a deal. It is slick and stays so for a decent amount of time. When it dries, it goes a bit tacky and leaves a residue that easily rinses off.
It doesn’t really taste so much like kiwi and strawberry to me as a just a generic fruit-flavored syrup, similar to flavored lip gloss. It’s sickly sweet, thanks to the aspartame, and it leaves that artificial-sweetener aftertaste. I wouldn’t say it tastes bad, and it’s not all that delicious either, but at least it’s an improvement to the bitterness of some unflavored water-based lubes.
I know some people may be wondering why anyone would need lube for oral sex, and probably most people don’t. However, introducing flavored lube is a fun way to add a bit of variety and try something different. Also, many commonly used decongestants and allergy medications can cause dry mouth, and lack of saliva can make performing oral sex tricky for those folks.
Since I’m only able to use it for performing oral I probably wouldn’t buy any for myself. Personally, I’d rather taste my partner than some fake fruit flavoring and residual aspartame, but I’m glad the good people at Wet sent me a free sample to try because at least now I know I don’t like it.
