Strap-on vibrators are fun and innovative sex toys. They usually consist of a bullet covered in a soft, shaped sleeve, and some feature an insertable appendage. Controlled by a remote battery pack, they can be worn discreetly underneath clothes for some secret teasing, used for solo play, or incorporated into partner sex. Pipedream recently sent me Monica Mayhem's Butterfly Buddy to try.
The Butterfly Buddy is a phthalates-free butterfly over a multi-speed bullet. Attached to the wings are elastic straps that go around the user's waist and legs. The 30-inch cord connects to the battery pack remote which controls the vibrations via two buttons. The butterfly's wings are 4 inches at their widest point, and the butterfly's body is between 3 to 4 inches long, depending on how you measure it. Attached to the butterfly is an insertable phallic probe that measures around 2 inches long and at the most 3 inches in girth. The surface has some shallow grooves that give the toy a bit of detail but don't really add a lot to the stimulation.
I don't know exactly what kind of phthalates-free material covers the bullet, but it feels a lot like TPR. It's nice and squishy like TPR, and it has the same kind of surface drag and propensity to attract lint. As such, it's best to store this one by itself in a plastic bag. Care is needing during cleaning since this vibe isn't waterproof, and it has some surface texture and grooves that could potentially harbor germs. Clean the butterfly with either antibacterial soap and warm water or toy cleaner. The elastic straps can be unsnapped and removed, and then simply wash them by hand and then let them air dry.
There are six different vibration settings: three speeds of continuous vibration, short pulses, a short-short-long pulse pattern, and roller coaster/escalating. Pushing the up button starts the vibe at the fastest vibration speed, at which point pushing the down button turns it off or pushing up again switches to the next mode, which is the medium speed. Continue pushing the up button to move on to the slowest speed, short pulses, short-short-long pulses, and roller coaster in that order. Pushing the down button starts the motor at the rollercoaster pattern, and continuing to push the down button cycles through the vibration patterns in reverse order. Once I got the hang of how to toggle through the patterns, I could easily get to the desired mode in a few clicks. With the probe taking care of vaginal stimulation, the butterfly's nose goes to town vibrating against the clitoris, and its tail buzzes the perineum. All of which feels lovely.
Everybody is shaped differently, so not every sex toy is going to work perfectly with every person, and I found this vibe a little tricky to wear. The straps are long enough, but the thin elastic gets a little uncomfortable after a while. I know, I'm a wimp. Also, when I have the Butterfly Buddy's probe inserted, the wings end up right between my legs, which makes walking rather awkward. Not having the probe inserted doesn't work either, because then it gets in the way and keeps the butterfly from resting against my body. Once I turn the motor on, unless I hold the vibe in place the probe pops out, whether I have on clothing over it or not. So, I would definitely like this toy better if I really could use it hands-free, but it still feels awesome and is a fun vibe to have around.
